About March 12 Movement
Who we are
The March 12 Movement (M12M) was established in 2015 by People’s Action for Free and Fair Elections (PAFFREL) in collaboration with multiple Civil Society Organizations with the aim of promoting clean politics in Sri Lanka. The movement has established an island-wide district network.
There is a steering committee for the March 12 Movement which comprises representatives from the partner organizations. This steering committee meets time to time in taking strategic decisions for the development and betterment of the March 12 Movement.
Our History

The Journey of March 12 Movement
The March 12 Movement was established in response to growing concerns about the deterioration of political ethics and integrity in Sri Lanka's democratic process. Named after the significant date that marked a turning point in the country's civic activism, the movement emerged from PAFFREL's long-standing commitment to electoral integrity and democratic values.
In its early days, the movement focused primarily on election monitoring and voter education. However, recognizing the need for a more comprehensive approach to democratic reform, it gradually expanded its scope to address systemic issues affecting political integrity, including campaign finance, corruption, and the lack of accountability mechanisms.
Over the years, the March 12 Movement has evolved into a prominent voice for democratic reform in Sri Lanka, building strategic partnerships with various stakeholders and implementing innovative initiatives to promote clean politics. Despite facing numerous challenges, including political resistance and resource constraints, the movement has remained steadfast in its commitment to fostering a political culture that prioritizes the public interest over personal gain.
